EASTER STARTS THIS WEEKEND AT THE BROADWAY MARKET – 300,000 EXPECTED TO VISIT EASTSIDE LANDMARK

Visiting Buffalo’s historic Broadway Market at Easter time is a tradition for many families in Western New York. Easter shopping at the Broadway Market starts this Saturday March 20th at 8:00AM. The many permanent tenants will be joined by seasonal food and craft vendors so Western New York can enjoy the Broadway Market’s rich traditions and new ideas. Mayor Brown and Bishop Grosz will be on hand Monday, March 22nd at 10:30AM.

The Easter festivities will continue daily through Saturday, April 3rd, 2010. New this year, the Broadway Market will be open Sunday March 21st and March 28th from 9:00am until 4:00pm as well as Dyngus Day (April 5th).

Permanent vendors will offer cakes, pastry, candies, meats, fish, baked goods and prepared polish foods. New food vendors include: popcorn cakes, pasta, gourmet teas, spices, olives, salsas, jellys, vegetarian fare, wine tasting and many more choices. A full selectrion of craft vendors will provide a wide array of shopping choices.

The Easter Bunny will be at the market every day to meet and greet visitors. Days and hours for the next two weeks are expanded to provide additional shopping opportunities for Western New Yorkers. The Market will also feature live music and entertainment daily throughout the Easter season. For a complete schedule, visit www.broadwaymarket.org

BACKGROUND

Since 1888, the Broadway Market has been known for unique products and personal service, with meat and poultry stands, produce counters, bakeries, candy stands and restaurants. Family-owned businesses, passed from generation to generation, have created some of Buffalo’s best loved foods. The City of Buffalo took over the operations of the Broadway Market in October of 2008. With a new Executive Director since October 2009, and the cooperation of the Department of Public Works, the Broadway Market is undergoing a major revitalization effort as it becomes a year round destination.
