Broadway Market promotes ‘Double Up Food Bucks Awareness Week’

Buffalo’s Broadway Market has teamed up with some local groups to help families get a little more out of their grocery budget.

The Broadway Market had members of the ‘Buffalo Bills Foundation’ and the nonprofit ‘Field & Fork Network’ helping out to spread the word about ‘Double Up Food Bucks Awareness Week’.

The program allows SNAP users to double their benefits more than 180 sites across the state. It runs through next Tuesday.

People who spend up to $20 per day at participating markets, will have their purchases matched dollar for dollar through the program.

“The goal is to allow the folks who are on limited incomes to stretch their food budgets further and then not have to worry about choosing something that’s healthy and something processed, so we make these beautiful fruits and vegetables way more affordable to those receiving snap benefits,” Lisa French, Field & Fork Network co-founder and executive director, said. Organizers say anyone who signs up for the ‘Double Up Food Bucks’ program this week will receive a $10 produce voucher. You can also enter to win a pair of Bills tickets and signed game gear.

“Partnering with organizations that improve access to fresh fruits and vegetables is a key to the foundations,” said Buffalo Bills Foundation Executive Director Michelle Roberts. “Fair Food Network’s Double Up Food Bucks program is a great incentive that helps educate and increase healthy food options for SNAP-eligible WNY residents.”
